Over ten years ago I waded into the world of collecting vintage football equipment with a moderate budget and very little knowledge of what I was purchasing. With no reliable reference material available, I jumped in head first, buying anything that was described as "early" or "rare." Tracking auction sales information and reviewing vintage catalogs I soon realized that many of the items I purchased were much later and much more common than I had been led to believe. Initially I grew angry, believing that deceit and profiteering was rampant throughout the hobby. I set out to educate myself on the history and evolution of football equipment to avoid repeating my early mistakes. As my information database grew I yearned for the opportunity to share my collecting passion and research with others. I found that not only did the hobby suffer from a lack of reliable resources, there were no clubs or forums for this small niche of collectors. For the past 3 years I have been writing articles on different vintage football research topics, from equipment evolution timelines and classification charts to manufacturer histories and football related special interest stories. This work has been rewarding, but also expensive and exhausting.
While I believe it to be a valuable resource, AntiqueFootball is mostly just research information from one guy put out on the internet. Missing in this endeavor was a platform for other collectors to share their knowledge and to communicate with one another. The AntiqueFootball Collectors' Forum is my first attempt to fill that void. I'm new to creating forums and the ProBoards platform, so please bear with it while I work out the kinks. If you're willing to participate, then consider yourself one of the original beta testing pioneers of this endeavor.
Like AntiqueFootball, my goal is to keep this forum free for users. In time, I may need to add advertising to the forum to help pay the bills. Hosting and monthly maintenance fees add up over time.
Thanks for your participation!
